About Compass Rift

Compass Rift is a free geography game. There is a new game every day. Each day a ship sails a real sea route between two ports, and you help it find five places on the way.

Who is it for?

Compass Rift is for everyone who likes maps, travel and learning about the world: students, teachers, travellers and families. All clues are in simple English, so people who are learning English can play too.

What you learn

The game has more than 500 real places from every part of the world. You learn where the big seas, straits and canals are, why some ports are famous, and short facts about cities, islands, rivers and famous buildings. After each stop you see a short fact about the place.

Your data

You do not need an account. Your scores, your days in a row and your Atlas are saved in your browser on this device. They are not sent to a server. If you clear your browser data, your progress is deleted.

If you say yes, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see how people play, for example which stops are hard. It uses cookies. It does not get your name, and your Atlas stays on your device. If you say no, there are no analytics cookies. You can change your choice in Settings.

Map data

The map uses free data from Natural Earth. The sea routes were made with the open source tool searoute-js.
